About 120 million tons of plastics of are produced world-wide every year. In Austria, more than 1 million tons of plastics are put on the market, of which more than 220,000 tons are in the form of packaging.

One cubic metre plastics, i.e. a cube of plastics with a side length of one metre, weighs about one ton. Consequently, the annual, world-wide plastics production equals about 120 million of such cubes, which - put next to each other - a length stretching three times around the globe.
